Cake *Sigh*
Hello, my loved ones! :-)
How’s your day been? Has it been relaxing? Fast-paced? What have you been up to?
I had a pretty great day at work. We have a new puppy in the office, and she is just the sweetest. Her name is Jamie, and she is one big ball of fluff. We all are trying to stay on task all day, but everyone keeps creeping over to her play-area and loving on her — how could you not! Just look at her!

I mean, come on! ;-)
After work, I went out for dinner with my mom and Greyson. We had a great time. We went to a restaurant called The Yardhouse — have any of you ever been there? The menu is huge, and every time I go there I try to get something different. But the tomato bisque is TO DIE FOR. Ugh. I mean it.
After dinner, my mom and I went out for coffee at the Starbucks that is in the same shopping complex, and then I came home. It has been a really wonderful day, and I am so thankful for all of the people I love. I am a blessed girl.
The Cake
I have to admit, we have kind of been dragging our feet on this whole aspect of the wedding planning. It’s been looming there in the midst of all of our other to-do’s, and finally we got around to it. I was inspired by this picture, so this is what we’re running with…

See that icing texture? That’s exactly what I want. Maybe just a tad less, but you get the idea.
Cara from A Day to Cherish (our wedding planner) had recommended to us a bakery called Let Them Eat Cake. Grey and I had our tasting there about two weeks ago, and though it went differently than we expected it to, we have decided that we want them to make our wedding cake. Here’s where things get complicated.
When we left the bakery, we had five days to decide (while the date was being held for us) what we were going to do. But our cake was quoted to us $300 over budget, so we were stuck! By the time we got e-mails from everyone involved in the planning process, had talked to my parents (and yes, cried over it on my part), and had come to a conclusion in our own minds, the five days had passed. I e-mailed the owner of the company and told her our budget situation, and she gave us a great alternative: Have the tiered cake serve less people, and have a sheet cake to be cut in the back that is purely there for serving purposes. Duh! Why didn’t we think of that? (I guess that’s why we’re not cake people, huh?)
Here’s the issue — since our wedding falls directly after one of the biggest days of the year to be married (11/11/11 — ugh) according to many of the vendors we have already booked with, we may no longer be able to have Let Them Eat Cake bake for us. I’m still waiting for a response. Well, I’ve only been waiting one day (and if I don’t hear back tomorrow, I’ll pick up the phone like a normal person and call) but I am so nervous! The thought has already started to cross into my head…who will bake our wedding cake? Momma Morley, you’re going to have to do it! (Just kidding — even though I know you would do a beautiful job!) ;-) Anyway, this cake has become my worry, even though I am telling myself not to worry about it — but anyone who knows me knows that “worry” and I are best friends.
So, that’s where we’re at with the cake. If anyone knows of any good bakers in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, we would love to get some backups going! Better yet — if any of you are bakers, please, let a girl know. ;-)
Love, M
