Monday Nesting
Good morning, good morning! :-)
How’s it going? Did you all have a great sleep? I definitely did. I went to bed not feeling very tired, but I ended up feeling really exhausted as soon as my head hit the pillow. Maybe it was all of the nesting that I did yesterday!
Let me first begin by telling you that I have loved Marshall’s Home Goods ever since I stepped foot inside years ago. I didn’t actually start buying things from there, though, until Grey and I moved in together. I cannot tell you how much this place saved us monetarily when it came to kitchen stuff and home decor. When comparing prices to stores like Target and the more expensive stores like Pier 1 and World Market, Home Goods really helped me decorate the way I always envisioned on a very low budget. Plus the fact that it is so much fun to just walk in and poke around for a couple of hours, looking through everything to see what you can find. I love the exploration almost as much as I love the actual setting up and/or use of my Marshall’s finds.
As a lot of you know, G and I moved into a really pretty apartment in a beautiful area of town back in March, and I hadn’t really explored our surroundings until this past weekend. I didn’t really venture around much, but I did head to one of the medium-sized shopping centers about a mile and a half away from my parking spot at the apartment complex, and just guess what I found. No, not a Home Goods store, but both a TJ Maxx and a Ross…right in the same complex! Oh, my gosh!
So let me tell you what I didn’t know about these two stores. 1) I didn’t know that they have a home goods section — a very, very large home goods section — inside of both. And 2) I didn’t know that all three stores — Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and Ross — are all made by the same company! Not to mention that I have all three within a six mile radius from my apartment (Home Goods is a little further, but still very close!). So, needless to say, I went to all three over the weekend, and I can’t wait to show you what I have found.
My mom, Greyson, and I went to Home Goods on Friday evening to find little things for the wedding, and we found so much that I am excited about. I can’t wait to show you all that is going to come together on the big day. But while I was there, I couldn’t help but look around and find little inspiration everywhere. I haven’t yet brought out much Fall decor, as it is still in the 100-degree temps here in Scottsdale, but I am so looking forward to more and more Fall and then Winter decor. :-)
On Saturday, I went to all three stores after having breakfast with a friend, and I just walked around and carefully looked at different things, my decorating ideas flourishing. I didn’t leave with anything, just an adorable pair of dish towels that are Fall-ish that are now hanging from my oven.

Cute, huh? :-)
Sunday was my bridal shower, and I had so much fun! It was so wonderful that so much of my family was there, and both of my grandmothers were there, and my amazing mother and mother-in-law were there, and my beautiful sister-in-law, and my adorable Avery… I cannot say enough about how much love was in that room — I truly loved every minute of that shower. I will remember it forever. I’ll be posting more about the shower with some pictures soon. But Greyson and I received so many awesome things for our kitchen. (More on that to come).
This all brings me to yesterday — Monday. When we had piles and piles of gifts on our breakfast bar and not quite enough room in our cabinets! What to do, what to do? My mind was all over the place at work, trying to figure out how I could put all of our serving dishes and bowls, cake pedestals, and glassware in the same place… and have enough room for all of our everyday dishes and the like. I have wanted a little dining room hutch for a long time, but I never thought we could have anything like that in our tiny apartment. Let me tell you — I was wrong.
I started to think about all of the furniture I left behind in my old room at my parents’ house. I realized that there was a bookcase in my closet that I used for shoes, and that it could be perfect if it fit where I wanted it to. I had two spots in mind that it could go in, and one of those spots I had my heart set on. I drove to my parents’ house and somehow managed to lift the thing into my car (solid wood — I have no idea…) and into our apartment. I knew that I needed something for the top of it, so I headed over to Ross and just started playing with different centerpiece ideas. I’ll spare you all of the details, but basically I wanted something sort of Fall-ish — something that I can change out a bit with the seasons — and let me tell you, I found it! When I got home, I managed to lift the bookcase out of my car, and carry it into the apartment, and I set it in the spot that I was hoping it would go — and it fit. Not just fit. It was perfect. It was like that spot has been waiting for that case throughout its entire existence. I’m not even kidding.
At this point, I set up the decor on top (which I’ll show you in a minute) and started piling in all of my white dishes. I added a little tiny bud vase with some Fall flowers and stood back to see what I had just done. And I loved it.

The two hurricanes were each $2.99. The maple-vanilla-scented candles were $3.99. The red bowl was $6.99. And the straw balls were a whopping $4.99. LOVE!
At that point, I just started to organize things. I rearranged our kitchen, and I just really like what I did…

And here is the right side… ^^^

And these are my adorable utensil crocks that I couldn’t resist taking a picture of. ;-) ^^^
So, that was my exciting Monday. I had so much fun! I’m planning on getting plastic tubs for the storage of each season’s decor and stacking them on a big shelf that we have in our laundry room — I don’t know why I never thought of that!
What do you all have planned for today? I am working — it’s going to be a very tiring day — and then I’m coming home and planning on writing the rest of my thank-you notes! I hope you all have a wonderful day, and I hope that Fall is in the air wherever you may be. :-)
Love, M
